What To Do in Big Bend & West Texas

Terlingua Ghost Town

Terlingua Ghost Town

On the random, I decided to finally (after many years of dreaming) visit Big Bend

National Park and make my way to West Texas. Driving from Houston, it’s an approximately 10 hour drive… did I mention I was doing this trip solo? No one to talk to for 10 hours which, honestly, was really nice. Now that I’ve “been there, done that” I thought I’d share what there is to do in this part of the (rural) world.

FROM HOUSTON TO BIG BEND
Seguin – wine
Del Rio – Lake Amistad & more wine (5.5 hour drive from Houston)
Langtry – the infamous Judge Roy Bean
Marathon – quaint town & the Gage Hotel
Alpine – another quaint town
Terlingua – ghost town (7 mi. from Big Bend)

Everyday I’m Hustlin’: Saving Money For Travel

Coming from a family with an immigrant father and immigrant grandparents on my mother’s side, I grew up really knowing what it means to hustle. You’re constantly looking for new ways to make money, always plotting your next steps, always searching for that next side gig. It’s the “where there’s a will, there’s a way” mentality. You just have to make things happen… somehow.

“I’d rather hustle 24/7 than slave 9 to 5.” – Unknown.

Best Apps for CHEAP Flights

January 13, 2016 – Everyone is on the mission to find cheap flights,… I know I am. Over the past year, and after much searching, I have discovered several apps and websites that not only simplify the flight search experience but also get the prices I’m looking for. Here are some of my favs:

Kayak.com/explore – (FREE – iOS or Android) Everyone knows about Kayak but oddly enough when I ask friends if they’ve ever used the ‘Explore’ feature, I hear “no” over and over again. ‘Explore’ will display a map of the world with pin points throughout detailing flight prices and the dates of available. You can search by month or season and you can set a max for price and/or length of flight (time). If you have flexibility with your dates and are open to a variety of locations around the world, you will adore this feature! It is my absolute favorite app! I use it every time I search for flights. Additionally, the ‘Explore’ tool is available on the app or online. Kayak has additional features such as hotel and car rentals, reviews, a flight tracker and flight alerts in case you want to keep an eye out for price drops.

Top Reasons to Go Camping Solo

At the base of the Santa Elena Canyon, Big Bend

At the base of the Santa Elena Canyon, Big Bend

I have long been infatuated with visiting Big Bend and West Texas in general. I finally was able to make the 10-hour trek from Houston to Terlingua, TX via my two-wheel drive Nissan Versa.

This was a solo-trip and probably one of the best trips I’ve taken in years. I can tell you all kinds of things about all the soul-searching I did and that being in nature allows you to be more introspective, etc. This is all true however, those aren’t the main reasons I think it’s important to go camping / hiking alone at least once in your life. There are several other reasons:

American Dream

Today is the day I begin my life, not the life I’m supposed to have; instead, the life I want. The life of my dreams.

American DreamI’ve had this URL (www.cheapgirltravel.com) for a while now and did nothing with it but let it sit. Frozen in my inability to write even though I had post / article ideas, even though I’ve traveled and have photo’s to share. I simply wasn’t motivated to write. That is until now.
